Local food in Vietnam

in

Food in Asia is diverse but you need to choose carefully what you eat and where for hygiene reasons. The European stomach is not used to the tap water from here so for example eating vegetables washed in tap water or drinking a juice with ice cubes made out of tap water instead of bottled drinking water can cause some heavy following days.. There are plenty of good places though – just pay basic attention 🙂

Bun cha: Rice noodles with salad, mint leaves, coriander, cucumber, pickled carrot and kohlrabi, grilled meat on a bed of bean sprouts

Small pieces of all these put together in a small cup to eat per portion. I have taken watermelon juice also, just love it!

Summer rolls

Various vegetables with pork meat and schrimps, packed in a “foil” – to dip in the red sauce.

Chicken curry with rice

The typical food across Asia! Here they make the sauce a bit jelly-like. Nevetheless, delicious!

Roti

This is a sweet, fluffy, sponge-alike cake. Filled with vanilla but variations with matcha, chocolate and salted egg also exist. Yes, you read it well, salted egg. It’s a thing here. So far I have not yet had the courage to try that.. 🙂

Finding a recipe for this is quite difficult as it is more like a franchise chain and another dish called also Roti here is a chicken dish. Plus also in India there is another type of roti, the bread. So if you manage to find the recipe, please do let me know also!

Bánh Mi with Honey & Lemongrass drink

Bánh Mi is a kind of sandwich in a baguette. The baguette originates from the time of Vietnam being a French colony. It’s super crispy and delicious! There is a kind of meat pate in it, cold cut, carrot, cucumber and sauce.
