Tibetan & Indian food and drinks

Tsampa bread, tsampa porridge and potato

Tsampa is roasted barley, the daily food of Tibetan people. Very typical in Tibet. This was the first dish I tasted in Mcleod Ganj. Tsampa tastes like ‘earth’ so barely any taste therefore it is nice to add honey in the porridge. After eating this, I was full for the entire day 😁

Hot Ginger lemon honey. Mixed, drink.

This is a tipical drink in the Himalayan area of India. It comes sometimes with a tea filter to add as tea but it can be also a stand-alone drink. Good for preventing sickness 🙂

Masala chai tea, veggies, potato and omelet from chickpea.
Tibetan thukpa

A soup of tsampa with lots of veggies like cabbage, carrot, peas and chicken. Nicely warm and filling 🙂

Lassi (Indian joghurt drink) with rice pudding

Rice pudding became my afternoon snack towards the end of the stay 🤤

Indian dahl, rice, steamed veggies.

The balls in red sauce are vegetarian but I didn’t manage to figure out what they are made out of exactly 🥲 This dish has been prepared in a monastery where I followed a class about Buddhism view on life with meditation with 180 other people.

Indian parantha with pickles and curd. The parantha is filled with mashed potato.

This food usually is eaten in Northern-India. The curd is super fresh, light and delicious! Even the parantha Indians are making spicy 😆 As in India almost everything comes spicy..

Tibetan momo’s.

Filled momo’s with cottage cheese amd spinach. The souce is a spicy dip. Good as a snack.
