Fuerteventura, my beautiful surprise

I was expecting a windy, barren island, just as the name suggests. After a 2 hour ferry ride, sunshine and a rainbow welcomed me in Morro Jable. As I walked along the shore toward the bus, the weather shifted to a light drizzle. Rain is very rare on the island but this misty, sprinkling kind of weather appears now and then and disappears even so quickly as it came.

Sitting down on the bench at the bus stop, I realized I had taken a seat right next to a Hungarian lady who was waiting for a different bus. She was from Pápa and gave me lots of useful tips about the island. Small world – or let’s say, European Union 😀

Puerto del Rosario was my first stop. A small town on the middle East coast with nothing particularly special about it. It was a bit of a disappointment at first but it quickly revealed a surprise: inside its shopping mall there was a 100 Montaditos: my favourite little ‘tapas’ snack place in Spain. I immediately went for it! Yummm! 🤤

The town’s beach is small but true to Fuerteventura, sandy and turquoise. Despite the 18‑degree water, taking a dip was a MUST 😁

The most beautiful part of the island for me is the north. I stayed here most of my time, in Corralejo. Several volcanoes side by side, dunesand, stunning beaches arouns! And not least, you can see all the way across to Lanzarote. Every day I cycled to a volcano, climbed it and loved it! Seeing a landscape like this really makes me feel the wonderful power and beauty of nature. This is the kind of island I would gladly return to for further exploration. It seemed like this island would never run out of volcanoes for me to climb 😇 I totally fell IN LOVE 😍

There was also a particularly beautiful beach I cycled along after climbing Montaña Roja: Playita del Porís. I did not have any bikini with me but the water was just so beautiful that I decided to go ALL IN, in my clothes, the same 18 degree water 😋 The warm sun helped me to get dry on the bike. True touch of Nature!
